The Extraordinary in the Ordinary: Writing Prompts

What inspires you to write?

For me, one of the most inspiring things is an assignment, and writing prompts often fall into that category. If you’d like an assignment for today, here it is: pick a prompt or two or three, and try writing your own creative nonfiction tale. Just take 15 minutes, and see what emerges on the page.

Happy writing, storyteller!

Write about the themes that have governed your life–the things that you keep thinking about over the years.

Write about the time you were joyful beyond belief, or cruelly disappointed.

Write about the time you fought, and lost.

Or the time you won.

Write about the things that make you different from your friends.

Write about the most interesting person you know and why.

Write about Anyone. Show the extraordinary in the ordinary.

Write about the time you were very, very bored. Any intense emotion will do.

Write about the person you might have been, had you chosen the other path.
